Próbowałem znaleźć wśród morza komentarzy opinie traktujące ten album bez emocji, jak jeden z wielu krążków ukazujących się co tydzień. Takie Repentless i Atrocity Vendor powinny wejść do setlisty na długie lata. W tym kontekście szkoda, że świetny riff w You Against You nie dostał większego kopa, aż się prosi o więcej punka i wulgarności. Riff znakomity, solówki Holta bardzo dobre, ale cały kawałek brzmi jakoś tak asekurancko. Dostaliśmy tylko dobry numer, a mógł wywalać z butów. Pozostałe utwory z Repentless, włącznie z Piano Wire, którego współautorem był Jeff Hanneman, mieszają się między stylem God Hates Us All (Chasing Death) a klimatem wcześniejszych nagrań Slayera (Cast the First Stone i Implode). Nowi-starzy muzycy, czyli Paul Bostaph i Gary Holt udźwignęli ciężar odpowiedzialności. Stary lis King nie sprowadził ich do roli pomocników murarza, dostali szanse pokazania się od najlepszej strony i ? jak dla mnie ? ją wykorzystali. Takiego Slayera chciałem słuchać w 2015 roku. Nie oczekiwałem po Repentless żadnej rewolucji, natomiast miałem nadzieję, że przyjdzie mi słuchać płyty, która zostanie w pamięci i będę do niej wracać. Chciałem Slayera w swoim charakterystycznym, niemożliwym do podrobienia stylu. I taki dostałem. Owszem, chciałbym napisać, że Repentless to jeden z najlepszych Slayerów w ich całej historii, ale tak napisać nie mogę, bo musiałbym oszukać sam siebie. Płyta nie burzy bowiem thrashowych schematów, ale od takiego zespołu oczekiwać rewolucji? Tylko czy ciągłe zaskakiwanie słuchaczy, dążenie z urzędu do oryginalności to jedyny wyznacznik znakomitej muzyki? W końcu Amerykę odkrył Kolumb tylko raz, drugi raz się nie da. Niewiele już pozostało murów do zburzenia, niech je znoszą młodzi. Tylko gdzie oni są i czy w ogóle mają tyle pary w łapach, żeby coś zmieniać? Złego słowa na Repentless nie będzie, bo bym ciężko zgrzeszył. Slayer to wybitny zespół, który nie daje się wyprzedzić nikomu. Kerry King i Tom Araya o tym wiedzą i dlatego reszta tańczy, tak jak oni zagrają. Dobrze, że wciąż są na świecie rzeczy niezmienne. The previous few Slayer albums -- Divine Intervention (1994), Undisputed Attitude (1996), and Diabolus in Musica (1998) -- were relatively disappointing, at least for anyone familiar with the band's defining triptych of Reign in Blood (1986), South of Heaven (1988), and Seasons in the Abyss (1990). While God Hates Us All isn't on a par with those classics, without much argument one could call it a return to form for Slayer. A couple "War Ensemble"-style thrashers, "Disciple" and "New Faith," get the album off to vicious start; "Payback" concludes the album likewise. On the other hand, "Bloodline" is a slower-paced, evocative song in the style of "Reign in Blood" and "South of Heaven," including a melodic chorus. These are the highlights of God Hates Us All, and while there are some passable songs sequenced throughout the 13-track album, it's solid and well-balanced overall. God Hates Us All ist durch und durch SLAYER: quietschende Gitarrensoli, typisches, abgestopptes Hanneman/King-Griffbrettgeschrubbe, und ein Schlagzeuger, der mittlerweile längst Dave Lombardos Lücke geschlossen hat. Dennoch – vor fünf Jahren wäre ich angesichts eines solchen SLAYER Album auf Knien gerutscht, doch heute will sich die Begeisterung einfach nicht so recht einstellen. Das Problem an diesem Album ist, dass ich keine offensichtliche Kritikpunkte finden kann. Es wäre viel einfach gewesen, hätten SLAYER ein Album gemacht, auf dem sich nur Songs wie Stain Of Mind geboten hätten. Haben sie aber nicht. God Hates Us All erscheint zwar in einem modischen Soundgewand, ansonsten haben sich die Amis auf alte Tugenden besonnen – das heißt, sie haben zumindest den Versuch unternommen. Die Songs sind unverkennbar SLAYER. Aber: Es fehlen Hits wie Behind the Crooked Croos, Mandatory Suicide oder Skeletons Of Society – von Reign In Blood oder Angel Of Death (vom strunzdummen Text einmal abgesehen) ganz zu schweigen. An solchen Songs muss sich die Band einfach messen lassen und da Bloodline, Payback und Here Comes The Pain, die besten Songs vom neuen Album, nicht an diese Smasher heranreichen, verliert God Hates Us All im direkten Vergleich zu Reign In Blood, South Of Heaven und Seasons In The Abyss. Nimmt man hingegen Divine Intervention oder Diabolos In Musica zum Maßstab, dann ist die neue SLAYER wieder ein richtig gutes Album – zumindest für alle, die ältere Werke der Band schätzen. Größter Kritikpunkt an God Hates Us All ist der Gesang. Tom Araya schrie schon mal differenzierter ins Mikro, auf God Hates Us All beschränkt sich der Gute leider überwiegend auf konstantes Gebrüll. Auf Dauer ist seine Brüllerei einfach ermüdend. Ausnahmen bestätigen natürlich wie immer die Regel: God Send Death weiß durch abwechslungsreichere Vocals zu gefallen. Allerdings bietet der Song ansonsten nichts neues, und die ewig langen Soli – mal auf der rechten, mal auf der linken Box – kennt man einfach schon. God Hates Us All ist bestimmt kein schlechtes Album, im Gegenteil, SLAYER haben zumindest ansatzweise zu ihrer alten Form zurückgefunden. Allerdings ist die Scheibe auch keine Offenbarung – und auf die hoffte trotz aller Gerüchte der ein oder andere bestimmt.
